Pride and Prejudice and Zombies continues to search for a suitor, er...director as Craig Gillespie (Fright Night) has decided to opt out of helming the film. He's the latest in a long line of filmmakers to leave the horror/comedy at the altar. Other potential directors that have courted this movie include David O. Russell, Mike Newell, and Jonathan Demme but, alas, none of them fell privy to this adaptation of Seth Grahame Smith's breakout hit novel that interfuses the original Jane Austen tale with...you guessed it, zombies. This doesn't bode well for the production since they've also had trouble locking down its leading lady. Blake Lively, ScarJo, Natalie Portman and Emma Stone have all passed on doing the film. Will we ever actually see this movie? Who knows!
BUT...
Grahame-Smith's OTHER novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is doing just fine with its director Timur Bekmambetov and stars Benjamin Walker and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. That film is schedule to hit theaters June 2012. Perhaps if its a hit, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will finally find some love.
OPENING IN THEATERS TODAY
The Rum Diary starring Johnny Depp returning to the role of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (well it's actually Paul Kemp but the character was pretty much Hunter) in an adaptation of one of HST's beloved novels (especially for this writer). Expect of a lot of drugs, alcohol and madness. Bruce Robinson directs.
In Time stars Justin Timberlake taking a shot at action star is this Logan's Run-esque thriller where JT is accused of murder and he has a stopwatch imprinted on his wrist because that's what happens in future world and if it runs out he dies or something. Hard-hitting stuff. Cillain Murphy also stars as probably the bad guy.
Hey, if you liked Shrek and thought to yourself,"You know, that cat that sounds like Antonia Banderas should have its own movie." Boy, do I have some news for you! Puss In Boots is in theaters now!
ON TV LAST NIGHT...
Last night's Halloween episode of Community was another great one for the series, taking a page from last week's superb alternate universe episode. This time around the study group exchange scary stories since Britta is convinced (based off personality tests she made everyone take) one of them is homicidal. The setup was very similar to Remedial Chaos Theory but that doesn't mean it's any less clever or funny. After each member of the group share their version of a ghost story, Britta admits her reasoning for the powwow, which naturally causes everybody in this unstable group to turn on each other. As usual, Jeff talks them out of it while Annie points out that Britta pulled a "Britta" and made the mistake of grading the tests upside down. Once the tests are graded correctly, it turns out everybody in the group is insane except for one person. Everybody agrees they don't want to know who that person is and go about their business. Before the episode ends, it is revealed the sane person is Abed.
I like how this season of Community is slowly revealing how the writers (or maybe just creator Dan Harmon) feel about the characters. The last episode exposed Jeff as the one dark character that actually hinders the group from being happy. This week we discover the one sane character is the quirky, seemingly insane Abed (something die hard Community fans probably suspected all along). With another satisfying entry from the most subversive show on television, Community is really on a roll this season.
Beavis and Butthead returned to MTV last night in all its 90's glory. Nothing has changed, not even their t-shirts, but that's ok. Why would you want it to change? There are a few updates, like in addition to watching music videos, B and B also watch MTV reality shows and make fun of those as well. A few Twilight jokes never hurt either.
Going back to the well? Sure, but I don't mind. I'll be returning for more next week.
