I just want to quickly remind everybody that I've already mentioned Breaking Bad for this column so it won't be mentioned here.
What hasn't already been said about this truly weird, truly brilliant series?
Louis CK gives us another seasonal glimpse into the world according to him, and the results are honest, uncomfortable and most of all, funny. CK may portray himself as at his wit's end on stage but on this show you may wonder if he's the only sane man in a world gone mad. Along the way, we meet his pregnant sister and his jaded teenage niece. He get rejected by his crush and tries to steer a fellow comedian from committing suicide. He then takes us over to Afghanistan to entertain the troops, and for just a few minutes, he actually makes Dane Cook look cool. Now that's genius. Louis is more than a TV show, it's art. And it's happening right now.
Unfortunately, last night's fantastic Christmas musical was the final episode before this show goes on hiatus until - well, we don't really know when Community will come back (if at all). It's not "cancelled" you see, but it's not exactly "coming back in the spring" either. That's so said considering it is one of the best comedies on TV, but dangerously low ratings will get ya every time. Will Community go the way of Arrested Development? If so, it would be unfortunate, but it was damn fun while it lasted.
If you aren't already into this show, get into it. You're missing out on some seriously brilliant, subversive humor at work here. It's unlike anything I've ever seen on TV before or will probably ever see again. Yeah, it's that good.
I know, I know - I'm not exactly happy about the way this season is going, either, but dammit, it's a show with zombies in it! For some reason, I want to keep watching! And I still have hope that it can be good! Maybe it's the blind optimist in me, or maybe it's the fact the midseason finale finally revealed where Sophia had been hiding, either way I'm just ready for show to get a much-needed shot of adrenaline. One more week on that farm and I would've been crackin' eggs over everybody's head.
When the show returns in February, we'll see what changes new showrunner Glen Mazarra will bring. In the meantime, I'm gonne work on my gun skills so I can get as good as Insane Shane. Maybe I'll even shave my head and sleep with my best friend's wife.
